I know booking your very first massage can feel exciting and can sometimes be coupled with uncertainty. My goal is to make your experience effortless, comfortable, and deeply restorative. Here’s what you can expect:
What will my first session be like?
When you arrive, I will take a few moments to talk with you about your goals: addressing chronic soft tissue issues, easing tension, melting stress, or simply taking a quiet break for yourself. Then I will leave the room so that you can undress and get settled on the table, letting the world outside fade away.
Do I have to undress completely?
Not at all. Your comfort comes first. You’re welcome to undress only as much as feels right to you. Most clients prefer to be nude, others prefer to keep on their bottom underwear. What you will need to remove is your top and bra, if I will be working on your full body or from the waist up. If I am performing full body work or working on your legs, hips, or glutes only, you’ll want to take off your pants or shorts. Unless you’ve signed up for a Lomi Lomi inspired session (see here), you’ll always be securely draped with soft sheets so only the area being worked on is uncovered. If you would prefer to keep your clothes on, perhaps a different bodywork modality is a better fit for you.
What if I feel uncomfortable?
Think of the session as a collaboration. If you’d like more or less pressure, if you’re too warm, want a blanket, or anything else, please let me know. Your voice matters, and I am happy to adjust so you can fully relax.
Will the massage hurt?
Massage should never be painful. You may notice “good tension” or a “hurts so good sensation” as we work through tight spots together, I will stay within a range that feels supportive and safe. Just let me know how the pressure feels and I will listen. On that note, if you want deeper pressure, I can upgrade your experience with a $20 deep tissue add on. Just ask!
How should I prepare?
Arrive a few minutes early to have a brief conversation with me and transition into calm. Arriving early also ensures you get to the right place and we start on time.
If you arrive very early and I am with another client (look for the sign on the door), you are welcome to browse the historic building!
Drink water before your session, but don’t start out on the table with a full bladder. I want you to be comfortable!
Avoid heavy meals at least an hour before your appointment.
Slip into something comfortable to wear after your massage.
What if I fall asleep or make noise?
That’s part of the magic! Many of my clients drift into sleep, sigh deeply out of pleasure, or even snore softly. Your body is letting go, and that’s exactly what it’s meant to do here.
Do I need to talk during the massage?
It’s completely up to you. Some people love to chat, others prefer quiet. I’ll follow your lead. Keep in mind that if you choose to chat, it may be more difficult for your body to respond to the session.
Should I tip?
Gratuities are never expected but always appreciated. If you’d like to leave a tip, most clients tip between 15 and 50 percent, or as their budget allows.
Will one massage take away all my tension?
Many people feel immediate relief, but lasting change often takes more than one session. Think of massage as part of your routine. I am happy to recommend a plan that supports your body long-term.
Is massage safe if I have a health condition?
In most cases, yes. Please share any health concerns, recent surgeries, blood conditions, soft tissue conditions, or medications with me before we begin. I’ll adapt the session to keep you safe and supported.
I am pregnant. Is it okay to get a massage?
Yes! Since starting my practice in 2016 I have had many pregnant women on my table. Since you will not be able to be prone (face down), you will be on your side before turning to be on your back. I will provide pillows to support your legs, hips, arms, and head during our session.
What should I do afterward?
Drink water
Rest, if your body asks for it
Enjoy the afterglow! Many of my clients notice deeper sleep, lighter moods, and a sense of renewal that carries into the days ahead.
